Default Help With A Mac

Hey all I just purchased a IMac and I am running the OS X El Capitan. I am figuring things out pretty much but I am lost on a lot of things. Any suggestions?

Sell it and buy a PC! That's coming from a Mac owner.
Sierra is the latest OS, which you should be able to update free. However, it seems to me to be slower than El Capitan to open large photos.
John Crossley, a forum member, seems to be knowledgeable about Macs - send him a message if he doesn't respond to this thread.

I recently got a MacBook for work after years using PCs so am slowly getting my head around it. Probably the best way is to ask any specific questions and hopefully someone will be able to help.
