Default 240gig Picture Library

Hi

My local supplier has just had a consignment of 240gig Hot swapable External hard drives and have bought and configured one.
They are cased and look just like a book, he is a wholesaler and I purchased mine for £65 + VAT, the makers are Western Digital.
If you would like one just drop me a line.

Brian

Just bought something similar last month, I'd got fed up of writing an ever increasing number of DVDs to do a full data backup. All I can say is, life is easier now. Can highly recommend an external HDD over writable DVDs.

Completely understanding you frustration of burning DVDs and backuping Duncan.
The only drawback is the fragile nature of externals.
Be-careful as depending on manufacturer, quality may vary significantly.
I can not forget how I lost a large amount of pictures when accidentally power cable of my external HD got disconnected (While being working) and no surprise it died on me
So the key word for valuable family pictures etc, still is a more permanent media IMO at this time large capability optical disks. Only if We could have higher speed internet connection (Speed close to that of pc's bus) then ISP's cashed of site storage would be the best solution. For now if data is priceless then have another backup somewhere.

Default External Hard Drives

I am using an external USB Drive 200Gb for backup. If you lose power when writing it can normally be recovered by reformatting. You still have the originals don't you. NEVER EVER EVER END UP WITH ONLY ONE COPY OF YOUR DATA. This is the moment your only copy will also be ruined.

Yes carman you still have the originals of what you were coping unless you used "Move here" instead of "Copy" but what about that achieved pictures form last week, last month and last year that your successful copy has lead to deleting of originals for obvious reason, opening up that hard drive space...
BTW my hard drive really died. I makes annoying loud click click noise and nothing can be read off it. I used it on several other computers including Apple. Obviously that gentle tap on the drive (Usual final rescue on most delicate electronic devices)also did not yield a favorable result.

I did the same about a year ago! I speak with some feeling on this subject.
