Photographic Subjects?

Hi Annette formerly known as Ben don't forget to keep taking the pills.

I will tend to snap anything I think will make a good photo. Often as your driving along you see a well lit scene but no where to stop and park the car or even worse no camera with you. I like to go out on a bike or walk as this gets rid of the parking problem. It also gives you time to be relaxed and think about the shot. I often take the approach of snap it first as you may never get another chance then if you get a second bite of the cherry think about if for a while. My focus has been on birds for the last 12 months.

It's mainly being in the right place at the right time in good light. Shots I've tried to make happen by forward planing have mainly failed. The light is wrong, it starts raining, its too windy, the subject has gone, its too sunny and so on.

Tis a good point you are making there. Sometimes I do go out to capture a certain kind of photo but more often than not have taken photos spontaneously. My focus has been mainly birds though in the summer I was often destracted by butterflies and dragonflies. I still think I need to open my eyes more though...

In the past like a lot of others I have only done Wildlife, but I recently joined a local Digital camera club to exchange idea's and broaden my interest's.

We have a small competition each month with different theme's. Last month it was Night and my entry of a lit light bulb on a black background was lucky enough to win. Next month's theme is Reflection so I am working on that one at the moment (mirrors?).

So far, and I have only been going a couple of months I have enjoyed it, the exchange with other members has been good fun and brain food.

It might be worth looking in your own area, your local library should know about any clubs in your kneck of the woods.

I joined my local camera club two years ago and the first competition they had after I joined, the set subject was reflections - there's a coincidence.

I seem to remember that there was a lot of work with reflections in water and the inovative ones photographed just the reflection and then printed it upside down so that it was like a blurred version of reality (a few whiskeys can cause the same effect but you can't hang it on the wall) - bit like I've tried with yelvertoft's Boston Jogger. On that occasion I managed a 3rd place with my "Refections of a Hornblower"

Pete, this is something Im feeling more and more inclined to do; check out my own local camera club. Being around fellow enthusiasts is good for inspiration and other ideas. Good reminder

I would like to do landscapes particually atmospheric or abstact scenes.

I enjoy wildlife pics, but also landscapes, especially water and sky. There's plenty of scope for skyscapes in my neck of the woods (on the edge of the fens), it's just a matter of getting out of the house and into the landscape. I'm planning on venturing into dSLR photography, and plan to join my local photography club. They had an exhibition recently, which was quite inspiring. And they seemed like a nice bunch of people!
