Hi Michael,
You say you are after a 500mm prime lens. If it's something like an f4 lens then there really is no contest between the D80 or D200... go for the D200...thanks to the D300, prices of the D200 have come down dramatically...there are some real s/h bargains too. To make the most of the nice bright optic and wide maximum aperture, the D200 faster focus response is worth it's weight over the D80. (you may not notice too much difference with std zoom lenses tho) If you get chance, try one out with a fast/bright lens (if the shop doesn't have your monster lens in stock try something like an f2.8 tele zoom), and you'll see what I mean. good luck regards Joe
