POTW 14th May 2017
sorry I am a bit late, totally forgot it was my turn.
my choice this week is, "jump" by Nigel G,I think this would have been quite hard to capture, I like them both but chose this one for the facial expression and capture in mid air...well done  yeah!!! I did it

Thank you Trena. It took about 4hrs with a reasonable supply of squirrels although they did have a tendency to try and sneak up onto the stump with the nut on rather than jump for it. I was pretty sure I wouldn't be able to track the jump and wasn't at all sure the autofocus would keep up even if I could so I opted for a different approach.
The jump was about 14 inches and the squirrels crossed that distance in about 1/4 of a second. The camera was tripod mounted with my 35-100 f2 lens at a range of about 8ft from the take off point. Camera was set to shutter priority with a shutter speed of 1/2000th which gave about f2.2 I then set a bamboo cane in the ground with a business card wedged in the top at the desired focus point and manually focused the camera before removing the cane - then wait for your squirrel and hope your reactions are fast enough. Even then the chance of getting a frame at exactly the right point was only achieved by setting my frame rate to the max 60fps

Excellent shot taken using meticulous prep. and assisted by 60fps ...awesome! But the result is both charming and exciting.
