Default Problematical flash transmitter for Elinchrom studio lights?

Need some help here...
I have Duncan's studio lights, Elinchrom D-Lite4's, which I really want to get more use out of. They came with a radio transmitter which goes on the camera's hot shoe and receiver (AT-16) which attaches to one of the light units, but I'm finding that in approx 1 in every 6 shots it does not trigger the light units. I thought it was the adaptor which fits onto the receiving end and seemed a bit loose so have replaced this with a 3.5mm mono to 1/4" mono adaptor but again still have an intermittent problem with the lights not firing. I have borrowed a Interfit IR flash transmitter from a friend and this seems OK but I really don't want to spend money on a IR transmitter if I can get the original one working more consistently.
Any ideas of what I might be doing wrong?

What is the connection like between the camera hot shoe and the transmitter? Try cleaning the contacts on the transmitter just to make sure.

The connection seems fine between the hotshoe and the transmitter, I've cleaned both just to be sure but still getting the problem.
Anyone else able to help?

Might be worth trying a new battery in the transmitter?

Oh such a simple solution! Battery changed and all works ok - I do feel stupid, but I must admit that the screw to open the transmitter unit was covered up by the quality control sticker, so I didn't even know there was a battery in there.
Thanks both for your help
