Default CF Cards Skipping Files?

Hi, can anyone tell me if Compact Flash cards San Disk Ultra 11 (genuine) 8 gb are prone to skipping files when downloading as they get older?

I had one skip 10 files in the middle of a download for no apparent reason and another one last week skip 38 files which I found out later on when my client phoned me. I pretty much always format them after deleting the images off them.

I wonder if it might be best to retire the suspect 8 gb card and get a new one? It's only a few years old but would have had thousands of photos pass through it.

Thanks

I've not heard of them doing this, have you tried reformatting the card?
If the card has been used a lot, with multiple deletions/additions it can start to get very fragmented, which could cause file access problems.
I've heard recomendations that a card should be reformatted every time you download the pictures but that seems excessive to me.

I would only re-format while the card is in the camera, if you still have problems is the camera firmware up to date!

Yes firmware is up to date on my Canon 7d. Might retire that card. Not sure I can trust it now. Thanks for the replies
