Got A Printer For Xmas...
Hi All,
Seasons Greetings, It's an Epson Photo Printer R240. Seeing as I couldnt find the cable to connect it to my Mac, I put my memory card into it, and used the little screen to choose a pic to print. The results were patchy to say the least. In fact I am very dissapointed. Having spent £1000+ on a 20D this is not what I expected. The images look like they were taken on a digital camera, not like they look on a monitor(when they look really good - just like film). I am going to get a cable as soon as possible and play about with PhotoShop, but in the meantime I wanted to ask: Have I got a crappy printer? Am I expecting too much ? Am I rubbish at taking photos?  I lost a lot of photos earlier this year when a computer I loved died on me.I know its my own fault for not backing up, but it has made me think about storage. For Mac users, what is better iPhoto or EOS viewer? Cheers Dave

Dave,
Firstly Welcome to WPF. I cannot really comment on your printer but the photos produced by any DSLR camera will require post image processing in a software package such as Photoshop. I encourage you to find a cable (you may already have one if the printer has a USB connection) and print from photoshop after the processing. I am confident your photos have not been lost from your older computer, they may still be on the hard disk. Could the disk be removed and tried in another computer or external caddy?

If your talking about print quality then on the Epsons you have to set the print quality are you sure it was not set on Draft (low) quality when you printed?
If its image quality you are refering to then this has more to do with camera technique, exposure etc and nothing to do with the printer. Last edited by Craftysnapper; 26-12-05 at 12:04.

Any DSLR camera will underexpose to protect the highlights, I used to have a Fuji S2-pro which underexposed by one stop, so perhaps the images are darken than expected or shown on the camera/printer display.
I use photobox (www.photobox.co.uk) for prints and posters and the quality is superb, prices are quite low also.
